What to Expect

These weekly classes fill in the gaps of coordination that have been working against you. By moving below the threshold of exertion you’ll compose and refine yourself in ways that redefine strength, agency and longevity. The format is called Awareness Through Movement®.

❋ Intentional Structure

The sessions blend guided movement, variation and intelligent effort so your progress is both focused and coherent.

❋ Healthy Collaboration

Deeper connection is a core part of the process. You’ll learn just as much from the group as from the teacher and the methodology itself.

❋ Expert Facilitation

Andrew Gibbons has over two decades experience teaching professional and public groups. His warm and rigorous approach is sought by elite classical musicians, rehab specialists, strength and conditioning coaches and corporate leaders.

❋ A Supportive Space

The teaching prioritizes safety, curiosity and respect—so you can show up as you are and fully engage in the process.

Reviews

“The teaching is clear and specific. I don't say this lightly—I’m pain free. I feel like I had successful surgery on my spine.”

—Lizbeth Davidow, GCFP

Your lessons are vastly improving the quality of my life. It is wonderful to be in a live class. Your elegant delivery of the instructions is a pleasure to listen to, and your wise responses to questions and comments frequently deepen the experience with new insights.”

—Mark Steinberg, First Violinist Brentano String Quartet, Faculty Yale and Julliard schools of music.

“My back feels amazing, and my body is grateful.”

—Jenn Orchard, www.jennorchard.net

“Your level of discourse and intelligence you bring to the method is unique. The point is I feel more intelligent, more of the person I want to be in the world. And I get it every week.”

—M'Lissa Hayes, www.girlintegrated.com

“Andrew's class puts me back together each week. If I am frazzled, off center, edging toward physical discomfort in my back or knees, the class restores me to a more balanced experience of myself. The week is more productive and life is good again. I am someone who has high standards for teachers and I consider Andrew to be truly a master teacher.

—Christine Olsen, pianist

After this lesson I am standing with perfect ease and balance and my knees are soft, no tension in my buttocks. My knees feel particularly comfortable and balanced. I feel like taking that bike ride you suggested. Thank you!”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You'll lie on a mat (or sit, or stand — it varies) and follow a guided sequence of movements and sensory cues. No mirrors, no copying at teacher, no "perfect form" to chase. In a structured exploration we’ll refine the patterns of movement, attention, leverage and coordination that shape your sense of self in action. Your awareness is used to qualify your effort and distribute it more evenly, not extort it. Most people leave with skills and insights they didn’t know they had. Each class is about an hour, with time for reflection and discussion at the end.

  • No. Because we employ the strategy of “slower than you know how to do it” the classes equally benefit those who need to move as well as those who already love to move. The sessions are more a “work-in” than a workout. The idea is to edit the habits you live under.

  • Loose, comfortable clothes you can move in. Layers are good— you'll warm up and cool down. Bring a mat if you have one you prefer, I have extras. No special shoes or equipment required.

  • Almost certainly, yes. Nothing we do is forced, and you're always the one deciding how far to go. If you have something specific you're unsure about, contact me before the first class and we'll talk it through.

  • Six weeks provides both time for you to develop a relationship to the practice, and for me to learn about you as a student in the class. The cohort is capped at 8–9 people so I can keep an eye on everyone. If you want a taste before committing, the free tools page is the right entry point.

  • There are additional live series to continue with, as well as online recordings to help you deepen your practice and stabilize the benefits they find. Some people begin private sessions. Some take what they learned and go run their lives differently for a while. There's no upsell pressure — you'll know what you need next.

  • People looking for a workout, a stretch class, weight-loss or some notion of a quick fix. People who want to “just do” without understanding, and people who only want to understand without doing.
